Whether you’re a new spouse or a seasoned one, the toll that military life can take on our mental health is significant. Deployments, permanent change of station (PCS) orders, and the constant instability that looms over our community can be draining.
If you ever feel like things are getting to be too much, remember you’re not alone. Finding your place isn’t always easy, but you’re not alone. There’s a community of military spouses waiting to connect, support, and grow with you.
According to an MSAN survey 82% of respondents said that the challenges that they've encountered as a military spouse have affected their mental health or overall wellness now or in the past. 93% of respondents said that military spouses and families need additional mental health support.
59% of military spouses joining the MSAN’s Military Spouse Mentorship-HUB join because they need mental health assistance and/or resources. But sometimes connecting with our peers isn’t enough. What do you do if you need more help?

LIMS offers courses for military spouses
Take advantage of the free courses available to military spouses through Leadership Institute for Military Spouses (LIMS). Did you know that two out of the five courses offered by LIMS focus on mental health? We’re here to help military spouses feel prepared for life’s challenges and confident in supporting their families and communities.
Mental Health Allyship through Psych Hub: Open to staff, volunteers, and mentees.
Mental Wellness Program through Notre Dame: eligibility is dependent upon graduation from MSLDP.

Military OneSource is available 24/7
Your one-stop for finding therapists in your area or virtually. According to Military OneSource, their counselors provide more than 170,000 counseling sessions each year. They have extensive knowledge of military life, many served themselves or lived in military families, so they truly understand your situation and know how to help.
Rather have an in-person session on base? Military OneSource can also connect you to Military and Family Life Counseling service. These are usually on base and go by different names depending on the branch of service:
Navy: Fleet and Family Service Center (FFSC)
Air Force: Military and Family Readiness Center (M&FRC)
Army: Army Community Service (ACS)
Marine Corps: Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS)

When you need help right away
Sometimes things can feel heavier than usual, and that’s okay—what matters is knowing where to turn. In a 2019 survey by Military Family Advisory Network, 12.5% of military spouses reported having experienced suicidal thoughts. If you ever find yourself feeling hopeless, overwhelmed, or unsafe with your thoughts, reach out for help immediately. You are never alone, and there are people ready to listen 24/7.

Every call is free and confidential, and you’ll be connected with someone who understands military life and is trained to help you through whatever you’re facing.
