Adjusting to Change

A good friend told me a long time ago that no one likes change, but the older I get, the more I can relate to the sentiment. Change is an inevitable part of life and having mechanisms to make sure changes and transitions go smoothly is the best we can do. Changes at home as well as changes within your institute can impact your education.

Tips for adjusting to changes in education:

  1. Find a friend.

    • Having a battle buddy is always good for stressful times. Every friend you make is strengthening your network. A classmate will understand what you are going through, plus you have a built in study buddy.

  2. Ask questions.

    • The worst question is an unasked question. Confusion does nothing to help stress. Ask all of the questions you need to ensure you have the best understanding of anything you experience.

  3. Find a routine and stick to it.

    • There’s so little we have control over, so why not control what you can. Make a schedule, and stick to it. It will make your life easier. Putting your tasks in order will serve as a visual reminder, and checking off items on a checklist is sooo satisfying.

  4. Don’t wallow.

    • Sometimes you hit rough patches in life. Multiple it by ten (or 100) and you have a military spouse. Like I said in number 3, we can’t control much, but we can control how we react. Find your joy and hold on to it as hard as you can.

  5. Learn how to be uncomfortable.

    • This is the hard part. It is kind of like number four, but with a plan. What is your method for working through a stressful situation? If you don’t have one, come up with one. Breathing exercises, positive affirmations, maybe taking a quick walk.  Figure out and use it!

These are just a few things that can help with adjusting to change, find what works and make it work for you.

Happy Learning!!!
